CARE: Coordination Action for Robotics in Europe

CARE (Coordination Action for Robotics in Europe) is a project of the “Coordination Action” type funded by the European Commission (FP7-IST-045058) started on 1 November 2006 and closed on 31 October 2009. The aim of the project was to bring together large, medium and small companies and research centres with the common objective of promoting the development of robotics related activities in Europe. Lead partner of the project was the German based company Kuka Roboter, the partners were 18 representing robotics manufacturing companies and robotics research centres in Europe.

The design of CARE was based on EUROP (the European RObotic Platform), a European technology platform with more than 80 members. One of CARE’s objectives was to promote European robotics in the context of the objectives defined in Lisbon 2000. CARE also maintains a close relationship with the EURON Network of Excellence (EUropean RObotics Network) and has a clear vision of the necessary cooperation with other European and national robotics initiatives.

CARE has produced a Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) for robotics in Europe in order to address in detail the technological challenges with a strong focus on research and technological exchange in order to facilitate Community synergies and optimise resources. This Agenda focused in particular on the creation of a European Robotics Roadmap on the basis of which to propose and implement initiatives to build and consolidate the European Robotics Community with a strategic dissemination process and an active communication plan.

Scuola di Robotica was responsible for the WP2 dedicated to the analysis of ethical, legal and social problems of robotics.
