Adolescents have little awareness of the causes and consequences of traffic accidents. They tend to get distracted, have difficulty staying focused while driving and responding promptly to unexpected events. The Erasmus plus ROadEDucatiOn (RODEO) project aims to promote and strengthen attention to road safety education in young people.
- The enhancement of civic education and road safety for secondary school students, increasing their awareness of the consequences of risky and incorrect behavior on the road as drivers, motorcyclists, pedestrians or passengers in a motor vehicle.
The development of new digital technologies to train and test road safety and civic education, specifically designed for secondary school students and designed with a user-centered approach, inclusive even for people with mobility disabilities.
Strengthening secondary school education on innovative, high-level technology solutions and common methods and practices to teach road safety, civic education, and support critical thinking.
The project’s first multiplier event was held in Genoa on March 2, 2023. The conference – organized by the University of Genoa, Scuola di Robotica, the University of Genoa’s Center for Simulation and Advanced Training (SimAv), and Scuola Liguria Digitale – was held at Palazzo Ducale, in the Sala del Maggior Consiglio, with the participation of several hundred teachers and students.
Several experts spoke, including Prof. Lino Nobili, Neurologist at the Department of Child Neurology of the Giannina Gaslini Institute in Genoa; Dr. Andrea Tacchino of the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (FISM); Dr. Antonino Massone of the Complex Structure Spinal Unit of the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure (SV); Dr. Alessandro Dal Bo of Dal Bo Mobility in Treviso; and Dr. Paolo Robutti of Abilitando Onlus.
After the lecture, students worked in groups on road safety and education projects in a hackathon with the aim of developing skills and knowledge in road safety education.
